About Us

Wingham is a small township 20 minutes drive west of Taree on the beautiful
mid-north coast of New South Wales. It is situated on the banks of the Manning River and represents the furthest navigational point of the river.
Wingham has had a long history of Scottish influence, beginning with the settling of Scottish immigrants in the early 1800s.
They arrived with very few possessions and struggled to establish a way of life in a sometimes hostile environment, surviving the pneumonic influenza pandemic of 1918-19, severe floods, fires and devastating droughts.
They helped make the townships of Wingham, Mt George, Tinonee and Gloucester what they are today. Many descendants of these early settlers still reside in the district and are very proud of their Scottish heritage.
The 17th Scottish Festival celebrates the lives and culture of these early Australians and welcomes people of all nationalities to join with us.
Each year the number of participating clans increases. The enthusiasm is still there!
